The Fables of Jean de La Fontaine, Illustrated by Gustave Doré, 1800s Hardbound Book - Amie's Standard Art Edition, The Fables of Jean de la Fontaine, Translated into English Verse by Walter Thornbury To Which Is Added An Essay on His Life and Works, Also The Life of Aesop, the Phrygian Profusely Illustrated by Gustave Doré Published by William T. Amies, Philadelphia Hardbound, 9¾" x 12" tall. Green cloth boards, gold lettering and stamped illustrations. old elaborate binding, 88 black and white illustrations, 733 pages. This late nineteenth-century English translation of La Fontaine"s Fables contains 88 full page illustrations. This book is in excellent condition. The edges of the boards show wear, the pages are clean tight and intact. A pencil signature of a previous owner "Mrs. Grace J." is on the front end paper. That page is chipped in the upper right hand corner. One page has a tiny tear at the edge. Overall, this is quite a rare find in very desirable condition

The Museum of Antiquity 1886 Hardbound Antique Book
The Employments, Amusements, Customs And Habits, The Cities, Palaces, Monuments And Tombs, The Literature And Fine Arts Of 3,000 Years Ago. Beautifully illustrated with full-page and in-text b/w plates. Written by L.W. Yaggy & T.L. Haines, Published by G.S. Cline, Western Publishing House, 1886, this book measures about 7" x 9.5" and contains 944 pages. The inside of the book is clean and intact. Although most pages are tightly bound, the last leaf of the book is loose. Cloth boards, bumped at edges, bottom and top of spine are worn and slightly chipped. Hinges are torn. There is no foxing, and I don't think this book was ever entirely read. Each steel plate engraving was protected by a tissue sheet, and the tissue has caused some darkening one the opposing illustrations. This is evident, but does not detract. The illustrations are intricate in every detail. This is an amazing book in overall excellent condition
